Banks Bowl for Kids Sake!

(Toronto, March 25, 2008)  - On Saturday, March 29th Big Brothers and Big Sisters (BBBST) of Toronto will celebrate the annual Bowl For Kids Sake (BFKS) Bank Day with over 800 bowlers from BMO, CIBC, RBC, Scotia Bank and TD. Bowlers will spend the day knocking over pins or playing virtual bowling with Nintendo’s Wii to raise funds for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto.  Honourary BFKS Co-chairs Roger Ashby and Don Landry will be the emcees for the day, announcing the best scores and winners of the raffle, including a Nintendo Wii up for grabs!

Bowl For Kids Sake is the biggest fundraiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto and at this year’s Bank Day they hope to raise 100,000 to help maintain their positive mentoring programs for children and youth. In the BBBST mentoring programs a mentor volunteer spends time with a child who would benefit from having a friend. The most famous BBBST program, the One-to-One (original) requires a few hours a week commitment from a volunteer mentor. Big Brothers and Big Sisters can also spend time with a child at their school (In-School Mentoring, Co-op and Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds) or during arranged outings (Group Program and Big Bunch). The Little Brothers and Little Sisters waiting for a friend come from all backgrounds; each one has a different story to tell and has different needs.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto serves over 1,000 children and more than 300 are waiting to be matched with a mentor. BBBST is in need of men 18 years and older who live in the Toronto area that can be a friend and share some time with a much-in-need child. BBBST is also recruiting girls under 18 who could benefit from having a Big Sister.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto invites the media to come out and have some fun bowling with us! Meet our Bigs and Littles and chat with our bank bowlers at the Bowl For Kids Sake Bank Day. We hope to see you at the alley!
