(Toronto, January 8, 2008) - On Tuesday, January 8th, Big Brothers and Big Sisters (BBBS) of Toronto, Peel and York launched their biggest fundraiser – the 36th annual Bowl For Kids Sake (BFKS). The 3 agencies came together to celebrate the start of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Bowling Season at Newtonbrook Bowlerama – supporter of BFKS for over 25 years.
BBBS friend Toronto Raptors, Joey Graham supported this BIG cause and traded in his basketball for a bowling ball, playing alongside BFKS Honourary Co-chair Jennifer Valentyne, Police Representatives from the GTA and “Big” and “Little” bowlers. Thanks to the generosity of Nintendo Wii, Little Brothers and Sisters showed Toronto Raptors, Joey Graham how to virtually strike out as he tried the popular video game for the first time. A special thanks to Tim Horton’s who donated donuts, coffee and drinks for participants to enjoy while they rested their bowling arms.
“Launching the Bowl For Kids Sake with Peel and York will help us get our BIG message out to the GTA. We are in need of mentor volunteers. The funds raised at the Bowl For Kids Sake events will serve to help Big Brothers and Big Sisters continue in its mission to positively influence the lives of Canadian children,” says Cathy Denyer, President of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto. Bowl For Kids Sake is the biggest fundraiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Last year Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto alone raised over 250,000 and together the 3 agencies have a goal of 800,000 for the GTA. Funds raised this year will help Big Brothers and Big Sisters continue to deliver the highest quality volunteer based mentoring programs to children and youth who would benefit from a friend. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto invites the community to come out and have some fun bowling with us at one of our Bowl For Kids Sake events. You can help make a difference in Toronto’s children and youth by signing up a team or making a kind donation.
