Co-op Student Program provides the support of a consistent and caring relationship to an elementary school child taking place entirely within school hours, on school property.
Children in this program are between the ages of seven and twelve and our Co-op students are senior secondary students, 16 and older, who are enrolled in a cooperative education program in their respective schools. Secondary students who wish to be part of this program must enroll through BBBST’s program and have the support of both their Co-op teacher and the elementary school teacher in whose classroom they will be volunteering. The ratio is one mentor to every two children, which offers more youth the opportunity to take part in a mentoring/leadership role. The Co-op student spends one hour a week with each child conducting various activities and utilizing school facilities such as the library, computer lab, gym, arts and crafts area and the staff room.
