H.E.R.O.S. (Hockey Education Reaching Out Society) Program was designed by a former WHL hockey player as a way to use hockey to attract youth to a program that offers not just the benefits of learning the game but also education support, proper nutrition and life skills training all of which results in increased resiliency, more confidence and an enhanced sense of self-worth.

Playing hockey with caring mentors offers these children a chance to escape daily concerns and for a few hours every week be part of something meaningful and life changing. The program provides all necessary sports equipment, mentoring and tutoring for the children as well as scholarship opportunities.

It’s more than just hockey – it’s full circle development and a real chance for these boys and girls to make a difference in their own lives. As one young participant said during an interview on CBC television, “No one is a loser. You’re always a winner.”
