The key to the programs success is the relationship that forms between the girls and their mentors.

Are you a young woman between 18-25 who is interested in volunteering?

Enthusiastic, caring and energetic?

Passionate about healthy eating and physical activity?

Interested in helping young girls build self-esteem?

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto handles the recruitment, screening, training and selection of all Go Girls! mentors.
Go Girls! mentors are women aged 18-25.

All volunteers undergo an intensive screening process that involves three reference checks, a criminal record check, an in-person interview and 12 hours of training.

Go Girls! training provides volunteers with an overview of the program and its core messages, information on abuse and how to handle disclosure, responsibility of reporting, active listening, group dynamics, how to discuss sensitive issues and create a safe environment.

All volunteers are required to maintain contact with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto for support and check-ins.

My name is Carla and I am a mentor in the Go Girls! program. We just finished our first seven sessions with eight girls at Swansea Public School. Even though it was sad to have to say good bye for everyone, it was a truly great and unforgettable experience for all us girls.

We had so much fun playing sports and doing activities. We also had quiet moments where we would address any issues and questions the girls had. The girls were amazing always eager to participate and they learn. We established great relationships and I really felt the girls learned some very valuable lessons they will never forget.

Being part of Go Girls! has touched my heart for life and I will be a part of it for as long as I can. It's all about “Sharing a little magic.” I feel blessed to have had shared this little bit of magic with these girls and look forward to doing so with many others.
