Big Sister Allies Program

BBBST has an exciting new program and we are engaging Big Sisters to participate!

Both Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto (BBBST) and Geneva Center for Autism / Respiteservices.com (GCA/rs.com) strive to help children and youth reach their full potential.  BBBST and GCA/rs.com have recently joined together to offer a new program for girls diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

The ‘Big Sister Allies Program’ (BSA) is an extension of the Big Sisters Program, providing specialized training, focus and additional support to Big Sisters matched with girls who have been diagnosed with a learning or social difficulty.

The Big Sister Allies Program will follow the delivery model of the successful Big Sister program with the following additions:

  1. BSA volunteers will receive a 2-hour training session about Autism Spectrum Disorders developed and facilitated by GCA.
  2. Mentees for the BSA program will be referred to BBBST directly from GCA.
  3. BBBST staff will act as the main contact for BSA volunteers and will receive support from the GCA/rs.com workers as required.
  4. BSA matches will have access to both BBBST events and GCA events (ie. Movie Night, Family Picnic, Family Holiday Party), building a sense of belonging and community with both organizations.
